CyGwin Installation FAQ

Posted in Linux / Unix by akamal on March 1, 2007

To anyone wondering why this faq is so short, I am just lazy to type the whole installation thing. You can instead read the install manual accompanying the cygwin setup program.

I wrote this simply because I was stuck trying to reinstall cygwin as previously the program corrupted.

Q: Multiple conflict; or cannot delete old cygwin1.dll
A: Uncheck under Tools > View > “Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)” and delete the existing cygwin1.dll file.

Q: How to uninstall Cygwin? I can’t find any uninstall executable!
A: You have to manually uninstall everything, including the shortcuts, and cygwin1.dll (refer above). If you can’t remove cygwin for some reason (usually because the service is running in the background), then proceed to kill the process (ctr+alt+del), look for cygwin services and terminate it.

Superb post but I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this subject?
I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Appreciate it!
